Chelski told Bent is available for £18m

Chelsea have been told that they can have Darren Bent for £18m. They have gone away to think about it. One attraction is that he would be available for the Champions League.

Radio 5 asked the rhetorical question, why would Darren Bent want to go to Chelsea? Because it's one of the biggest clubs in the world and he would be paid a fortune, even just to sit on the bench.

If Chelsea come back and offer £13m I would take it, although a lot depends on how long he is likely to be out with his injury.

One minute we're going to sell him, then Pards makes him captain - surely a sign that we want to keep him - now we're talking about selling him again. As other posters have said elsewhere, why would we sell one of our best players when we are in danger of relegation? It makes no sense to me and I can only assume that the club is in such dire financial straits that they need the money so Pards can buy a few new players in the window. But are we really going to be able to buy anyone who can score as many goals as Bent. Unless the club knows he's totally crocked for the rest of the season, and they want to cash in on his value now. And I thought the silly season had ended when Reed got his marching orders.
