Spurs in for Bent

Reports suggest that Spurs have made a £10m bid for Darren Bent with uncertainty surrounding the future of Judas Defoe at the Haringey club. Charlton are rumoured to be holding out for £12 million. A slice of the money would go to the Tractors who have a sell on clause.

Losing our ace striker to the 'we really are a top five club' North London outfit would be a particularly bitter blow. However, it is difficult to resist such bids, particularly if the player decides he want to go. One thing is for sure, Bent would not be a bench warmer at the Lane like Spurphy.

The Liverpool bid was never spoken about in such concrete terms yet Liverpool are a club in desperate need of a striker, the fee was way above what Spuds are allegedly offering was Liverpool, say no more.

Why should we take this one any more seriously?

Well, of course, Rick Everitt says that we shouldn't take any of it seriously. We know that many of these stories are started by agents trying to arouse interest in a player or bid up his price. Others may just be started by tired journalists short of a story.
However, if the club released more information perhaps there would be less idle speculation in the blgosphere.
