Media attention for the Addicks

Charlton are at last starting to get some serious media attention with two articles in The Times today. Up to now, the media view has been that Charlton's second place in the Premiership is a fluke. Charlton always start well, the argument runs (they don't) and they will have the usual late season slump (overlooking the greater strength in depth in the squad which Curbs told me he thought had been the reason for the end-of-season slump in previous years).

The main article in The Times is centred around the possibility of Curbs becoming England manager sooner rather than later, although it emphasises 'Charlton is not sexy, Curbishley is not sexy.' The article is also a salutary reminder of how much a joke club we once were. 'Charlton went in for mad experiments, such as bringing Chief Nzeribe, a Nigerian arms dealer, on to the board. The club were a joke: inept, disreputable and, above all, losers.'

The second article is about the fact that Curbs thinks that the fact that Danny Murphy is in the England frame might put unwanted pressure on him, the same applying to other players. Charlton will have fifteen players out on international duty next week, the latest call up being striker Gilasson to Iceland's Under 21s.

What's more Warwick University's Decision Technology Group have said the most likely outcome of the match is a home win (which probably means we'll lose).
