Big Brian Cole sacked

Pitchside announcer Big Brian Cole has been sacked by Charlton after remarks he made before last night's game against Palace. Cole pronounced the name of the distinguished South London club as 'Palarse' and also referred to 'Charlton Athletic versus that lot'. The club was placed in a difficult position after Palace directors (who would seem to be in need of a humour transplant) complained. There might also have been a complaint to the Premiership who have had enough on their hands with accusations of flying pizza and thrown soup at Old Trafford. Brian has accepted the club's decision and apologised to the directors of both clubs. Nevertheless, I shall be sad to see him go. It could be another step in the direction of a blander, more corporate Charlton. Later It has emerged that TalkSport is now running a 'Bring Back Brian' campaign and is claiming that they will talk to the horizontally challenged sacked announcer tomorrow, although he has no knowledge of this.

How sad that modern football has come to this! A mildly offensive, if your name is Mary Whitehouse, jibe at our pompous neighbours & poor old Brian is sacked by the grey men in our boardroom. Just like on the pitch we become greyer & duller by the day. Charlton Athletic have got where they are on the backs of loyal fans like Cole, who have been there in the bad times as well as the good. All Charlton care about now are the corporate suits, a whiter than white media image & profits. Any ounce of individuality & expression off the pitch, & nowadays on the pitch is starngled at birth. It's not the club it was even 5 years ago.

Bring Back Brian!! Such an over reaction from the club, and the palarse directors obviously have no sense of humour at all.

I think it's a sad comment on things when, so keen to please the humourless 'PC' lot by publicly condemning Mr. Cole, Charlton did not at least acknowledge his tireless contributions and unswerving loyalty to the club all these years. Hopefully, class will eventuially tell and there will be some formal recognition of Mr. Cole's services.
